Audio Assistant

Live transcription and suggested answers with Souffler during interviews.

Overview

Souffler is the audio assistant. While recording, it transcribes the conversation live and suggests an answer after each spoken line, using the recent conversation as context. The transcript also works as live captions, useful for fast talkers, unfamiliar accents, or unclear audio. It works alongside any video-conferencing tool.

Setup

  1. Grant microphone permission when prompted.
  2. Select your microphone in Settings > Audio.
  3. Open the Souffler tab and start recording with the button or Cmd/Ctrl + D. The same shortcut stops it.

It Listens Through Your Microphone

Souffler captures audio from your selected microphone only. It does not capture your computer's audio output. This matters for hearing the interviewer:

  • Speakers: works out of the box, because your microphone picks up the interviewer's voice from your speakers.
  • Headphones: the interviewer's voice never reaches your microphone, so it won't be transcribed. Use speakers, or route system audio into a virtual input device with a third-party tool.

Language Support

Live transcription is English only. Suggested answers are written in the app language set in Settings > Appearance (11 languages available).

Session Recordings

Each recording session is saved as a WAV file in your storage folder (default: Documents/CheatCodeAI). Recordings stay on your device — audio is streamed for transcription in real time but not stored on our servers. Delete recordings any time via Settings > Storage > Clear Storage or directly in the folder.

Best Practices

  • Record in a quiet room for the best transcription accuracy.
  • Position the microphone so both you and the interviewer's audio are captured clearly.
  • Use suggested answers as prompts, not scripts: skim them, then speak naturally.
  • If the connection drops, the recording session ends and you need to start it again.
